June Highlight: Mindy Maples

Why do you serve at Caring Community?

Caring Community Church has become our home.  We feel encouraged in our faith and challenged in many new ways! As a result, we feel compelled to volunteer in several ways.  We appreciate Pastors Tamar & Eric so much!

I try to remember that Jesus was humble enough to wash his disciples' dirty, smelly feet!  To me that is the epitome of a servant!  He has also done so much in my life!   How can I not give of my time and resources?

How long have you been serving at Caring Community?

We began attending CCC when Myra was in 6th grade, so 6 years now.   I joined the worship team soon after.  During Covid, I felt called to keep a "virtual" youth group going, so with leadership's backing, that's what I did.   I loved the experience, but I was so relieved when Rachel felt called to take over the youth group following the Covid shutdown.

What area(s) do you serve in, or have you served in the past?

In the past I have helped lead the youth group and now I volunteer in the nursery from time to time.  This past summer Pastor Eric and I co-led GriefShare for people dealing the loss of a loved one.  Lord willing, we will offer that again very soon.  Last May I began pursuing my ministerial license through the Wesleyan Church because I feel called to pastoral counseling.

However, one of my greatest passions for service lies in worship.  I love to sing and play worship songs to our God and I love to encourage others to do the same!  This past December I became one of the worship leaders on rotation as needed.

What is something you would like to share to encourage others to volunteer?

In Matthew 25, Jesus shared the Parable of the Talents.  I know this literally refers to how we use our treasure or monetary value, but it can also, most certainly, apply to our literal giftings---our talents.  Do we share our talents for the building of Christ's Kingdom or do we bury them, ignore them, or find ways to wiggle out of commitment?

I encourage you to serve in some capacity.  God has gifted you with some skill, which can encourage others and draw people to Christ!  Don't hold back!  Let your light shine!
