Why do you serve at Caring Community?
I believe in the importance of being in community. That can look different from person to person and it may change as the years go on, but I have always found value in it. In each season I have had serving, I have been able to look back and see cherished memories, how I’ve grown closer to God, and the friendships that I’ve made.
How long have you been serving at Caring Community?
I first attended a VBS as a child back in 1996. Our family then started coming to the church in 1997. I don’t have an exact number of years that I’ve been serving, but it’s somewhere around 20.
What area(s) do you serve in, or have you served in the past?
I have served on the worship team in a number of capacities: the community team (taking part in 2 songs), playing trumpet, singing, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, acoustic guitar + kick drum, co-director, and back to acoustic. I have also served on the cleaning team when I was younger, as well as a few places down in the children's hall and with VBS.
What is something you would like to share to encourage others to volunteer?
Some days you will look forward to serving. Some days you will be exhausted and it’ll be the last thing on your mind. No matter how excited or exhausted I am when I head in to serve, I end up finding joy by the end of it. Even on some of the worst days, when I head in thinking there’s no chance I’ll be happy I went, I end up feeling refreshed.
If the idea of it seems intimidating, know that there are many others ready to share, help, and grow together.
